Ah Solid Metal Tactics. The greatest isometric turn based game to never exist.
The brief
Create gameplay screens which would allow the player to see appropriate information about a selected character
The brief went into great detail about cyborgs and mercenaries, about war, aliens and extinction of the human race but I know what they meant. XCOM for the 3DS, so that’s where I took my cues from.
The scanlines, the neon lettering, the cut corners are all inspired by its logo and UI. Although I suppose the cut corners are from everything ever so ignore that. Let’s look at planning before I continue to argue with myself.

contact with the enemy, so they say, but hey, would you look at that, mine did. I knew I wanted weapon selection on the top screen and stats on the bottom in roughly these layouts:

I also stole (with permission) a small bit of menu backing-tuneage from secretive, Bristol-based producer, Doroma.
And ended up with something like this:
